Armenia has a long and rich mining history that dates back to ancient times. The ancient Armenian Kingdom of Urartu, located in the eastern part of modern-day Armenia, was known to have extracted various minerals such as copper, iron, and gold. Later, during the Soviet era, Armenia's mining industry was developed and expanded, mainly focusing on the extraction of base metals and industrial minerals.

After gaining independence in 1991, Armenia's mining industry faced various challenges due to a lack of investment, outdated equipment, and public opposition to some mining projects due to environmental concerns. However, in recent years, the industry has experienced some growth, with the discovery of new mineral deposits and the launch of new mining projects. Armenia's mining sector, mainly focused on base and precious metals such as copper, gold, and molybdenum, remains an important contributor to the country's economy and provides employment opportunities for thousands of people.
