Professional Mining Analysis, News & Education related to British Virgin Islands.
The British Virgin Islands do not have a significant history of mining. However, prior to the colonization of the islands by Europeans, the indigenous people may have extracted minerals and other resources from the land and sea for their needs.
In the 1960s and 1970s, there were brief attempts at mining for copper on Virgin Gorda and Anegada. These efforts were not successful, as the deposits were found to be too small and insufficient to support a viable mining industry. Today, the British Virgin Islands rely primarily on tourism, financial services, and agriculture for their economy.
