Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands do not have a significant history of mining activities due to their geological composition. Most of the islands are made up of limestone, which is not a mineral resource that is commonly extracted through mining. However, there have been some limited efforts to extract sand and gravel from the seabeds around the islands to support local construction projects.

One example of such mining activity took place in the 1960s when a company called Hancock Marine Resources carried out dredging operations in the waters surrounding Grand Cayman. They extracted sand and gravel to support the development of the island's infrastructure, including the construction of the airport runway and roads. This activity was later discontinued due to environmental concerns raised by local residents and conservation groups. Overall, the mining history of the Cayman Islands is limited in scope and scale and focused primarily on supporting local construction needs.
