Professional Mining Analysis, News & Education related to Equatorial Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea has a relatively limited mining history, with only minor commercial exploitation of minerals. The country's first major mining project began in the mid-1990s with the discovery of oil reserves offshore. This fueled the country's economic growth and investment in infrastructure, but also led to limited attention and investment in the development of the country's mining sector.
The most significant mineral resource in Equatorial Guinea is gold, which is typically found in small alluvial deposits along rivers or streams. Small-scale artisanal gold mining has been carried out for centuries by local communities in Equatorial Guinea, although it remains largely unregulated. The government began efforts to formalize artisanal mining in the early 2010s, but progress has been slow. In addition to gold, the country has potential deposits of iron ore, bauxite, and uranium, but these have yet to be actively explored and developed.
