Ethiopia

Mining has a long history in Ethiopia, with evidence of gold production dating back to ancient times. The country is rich in mineral resources, including gold, platinum, copper, iron ore, and tantalum.

In the 1970s, a state-owned mining company was established to manage the country's mineral resources. However, the industry experienced major setbacks due to political instability, lack of infrastructure, and inconsistent government policies in subsequent years. In recent years, the government has made efforts to revive the sector and attract foreign investment through reforms such as the Mining Operations Proclamation of 2010 and the establishment of a Ministry of Mines. These efforts have led to increased exploration and development of mineral resources, with several mining companies now operating in the country.
