Professional Mining Analysis, News & Education related to Somaliland.
Somaliland does not have a well-developed mining industry. However, there have been some historical instances of mining activities in the region. The most notable of these is the mining of precious stones in the El Bur region in the early 1900s. The British colonial government at the time granted concessions to a British mining company to prospect and develop mining activities in the area. The company discovered sapphires and other precious stones and extracted them until the onset of World War I, which disrupted the company's activities.
In recent years, Somaliland has shown some interest in developing its mineral resources. The government has identified a number of minerals that are present in the country, including gold, copper, iron, and uranium. The government has also taken steps to develop policies and regulations to encourage investment in the mining sector. Despite these efforts, the mining sector in Somaliland remains largely underdeveloped and there are significant challenges to attracting investment and developing the infrastructure and skilled workforce needed to extract and process minerals.
