Professional Mining Analysis, News & Education related to Togo.
Togo has a long history of mining dating back to pre-colonial times. The country's mining industry was centered around the extraction of phosphate, a mineral that is used in the production of fertilizers. The first commercial mining operation in Togo was established by the Compagnie de Phosphate de Togoland (CPT) in 1925. The CPT was later nationalized in 1974, becoming the Société Nouvelle des Phosphates du Togo (SNPT), which is the country's current phosphate mining company.
Aside from phosphate, Togo also has deposits of other minerals such as gold, diamond, bauxite, and iron ore. However, these minerals have not been fully exploited due to the lack of infrastructure, investment, and mining expertise. In recent years, the government of Togo has been working to attract foreign investment and develop the country's mining sector. This has led to the establishment of several mining companies in the country and the exploration of previously untapped mineral deposits.
