BacTech Environmental
BacTech Environmental Corporation is a commercially proven cleantech company focused on the remediation and reprocessing of artisanal gold mining tailings and concentrates. The company utilizes bioleaching, an environmentally friendly technology, to treat high-arsenic gold concentrates produced by artisanal and small-scale miners.
BacTech is currently at an advanced stage of developing an owner-operated 50-tonne-per-day bioleaching plant in Tenguel, Ecuador. The plant is designed to reprocess high-grade gold-arsenic concentrates purchased at a discount from local miners and generate attractive returns through the liberation and recovery of residual gold. Construction of the approximately US$17 million plant is expected to begin once financing is secured.
In addition to the Ecuador bioleaching facility, BacTech is also targeting historical nickel stockpiles in the prolific Sudbury Basin of Ontario, home to some of the world's largest nickel, copper, platinum group elements, and cobalt deposits. The company has filed a provisional patent application for a bioleaching process to liberate nickel, cobalt and iron from the basin's estimated 80-100 million tonnes of 0.8% Ni-bearing pyrrhotite tailings.
With its focus on sustainable mining practices and environmental remediation, BacTech leverages decades of research and development in the bioleaching space. As one of only two companies worldwide with proven commercial bioleaching capabilities, BacTech is well-positioned to capitalize on this green, niche opportunity in the gold and battery metals sector.
