TMK Energy Limited is an Australian-based oil and gas exploration company focused on developing its 100% owned Gurvantes XXXV project located in the South Gobi basin of Mongolia. The company holds an exploration license covering 8,400 km2 in the basin, which is estimated to contain a significant CSG resource.
TMK Energy is currently at the exploration and evaluation stage, having recently completed a seven-well drilling program at Gurvantes XXXV. Based on the results, NSAI has certified a maiden contingent resource of 1.2 TCF (2C) for the project, which represents the largest contingent CSG resource in Mongolia. Meanwhile, the best estimate prospective resource is 5.3 TCF, highlighting the scale potential.
The Gurvantes XXXV project area is strategically positioned less than 20km from the Chinese border and within close proximity to gas pipeline infrastructure in Northern China which provides opportunities for TMK Energy to potentially supply the Chinese market, which has forecasted gas demand growth in the coming decades. Domestically, the project could also service Mongolia's push to reduce pollution and address energy reliability issues through increased utilization of natural gas.
Overall, TMK Energy has acquired a significant early mover advantage in the underexplored Mongolian CSG sector though its Gurvantes XXXV project. With the successful maiden drilling campaign confirming a world-class contingent resource, the company is now focused on pilot testing and continued exploration to further appraise the asset and pathways to commercialization.
