Angola has a rich mining history that dates back to pre-colonial times when tribes such as the Khoi-San and Bantu mined for diamond and iron ore. The Portuguese colonizers introduced modern mining methods in the 20th century, and the mining sector accounted for a significant portion of the country's economy. However, the civil war that began in 1975 and lasted until 2002 severely disrupted the mining industry, causing many mines to close and production levels to decline.

In recent years, the Angolan government has made efforts to revive the mining industry and attract foreign investment. The country has significant mineral deposits, including diamonds, iron ore, copper, and gold, among others. The government has adopted new mining laws and policies aimed at encouraging investment, and in 2019, the country launched its first diamond auction in partnership with international diamond trading companies. However, the mining sector still faces numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, governance and regulatory issues, and competition from other African mining countries.
