Eritrea

Eritrea, located in the Horn of Africa, has a rich mining history dating back to the early 1900s. The country's mineral resources include gold, copper, zinc, silver, and potash, among others. The mining industry has played a significant role in the economic development of the country, providing employment opportunities and contributing to the growth of the country's GDP.

Throughout the 20th century, several mining companies operated in Eritrea, including the Italian mining company Compagnia Mineraria Coloniale (CMC) in the 1930s and the Canadian mining company Bisha Mining Share Company in the early 2000s. Today, the country's mining sector is primarily focused on the Bisha Mine, which is owned and operated by the Canadian company Nevsun Resources. The Bisha Mine produces primarily copper, zinc, and gold, and is one of the largest foreign investments in Eritrea, providing significant revenue for the country's economy.
