Peabody Energy, Inc. Company Overview

Peabody Energy Corporation is a leading coal mining company. Peabody produces thermal and metallurgical coal from surface and underground mines located primarily in the United States and Australia.

The company operates several large-scale, established mining complexes, including the North Antelope Rochelle mine in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, which is the world’s largest coal mine with over 1.4 billion tons of reserves. In 2022, Peabody sold over 123 million tons of coal that was used to fuel electricity generation and steel manufacturing across major industrial hubs in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Peabody has taken actions to strengthen its balance sheet, reduce debt, and position for long-term value creation including fully prefunding over $1 billion for final mine reclamation costs. With a more resilient financial platform and diverse, high quality asset base, Peabody aims to efficiently operate existing mines while developing organic growth opportunities.

One key organic growth project Peabody is progressing is the redevelopment of the North Goonyella mine in Australia into a premium hard coking coal underground longwall mine. The staged 20 million-ton brownfield project benefits from approximately $1 billion of existing infrastructure and is targeting first production in 2024.
