Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso has a long history of mining dating back to the time of the Mossi Empire. Gold, as well as other minerals such as manganese, bauxite, and zinc, have been mined and traded throughout the region for centuries. However, it was not until the 1980s that modern industrial mining began in Burkina Faso.

Since then, Burkina Faso has become one of the fastest-growing gold producers in Africa, with mining contributing around 10% of the country's GDP. Some of the major mining companies operating in Burkina Faso today include Endeavour Mining, IAMGOLD, and SEMAFO, with several smaller companies also involved. Despite its mining boom, the sector still faces challenges such as insufficient infrastructure, poor regulatory frameworks, and the ongoing threat of insecurity in certain parts of the country.
