NextDecade

NextDecade Corporation is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) development company focused on LNG export projects and carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions. NextDecade is developing Rio Grande LNG, a proposed 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) LNG export facility at the Port of Brownsville in Texas that has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for up to 5 liquefaction trains.

Phase 1 of Rio Grande LNG, comprising 3 trains with a total capacity of 17.6 MTPA, is currently under construction. NextDecade’s equity partners in Phase 1 include Global Infrastructure Partners, GIC, Mubadala Investment Company, and TotalEnergies. Over 90% of Phase 1’s capacity is supported by 20-year LNG sales agreements with creditworthy counterparties. Full notice to proceed on Phase 1 construction was issued in July 2023 after securing $18.4 billion in total financing, including $12.3 billion in debt.

NextDecade is also progressing development of Trains 4 and 5 at Rio Grande LNG, which could add up to 11.7 MTPA of additional capacity. Additionally, NextDecade is developing CCS solutions focused on post-combustion carbon capture to reduce emissions from LNG production and third-party industrial facilities which includes a planned CCS project at Rio Grande LNG that could capture up to 5 million metric tonnes of CO2 per year. The company has options and commercial arrangements in place with partners that are intended to help accelerate the final investment decision timeline for these expansions.
