Impact Minerals has acquired the Lake Hope high-purity alumina (HPA) project in Western Australia. Lake Hope has the potential to be a low-cost HPA mine producing material for the lithium battery and LED markets. An exploration target estimates a contained alumina range of 629,000 to 1,250,000 tonnes grading 24-27% Al2O3.
The Lake Hope deposit comprises two shallow lakes with an area over 2 square km and thickness up to 2 meters. The natural deposit requires minimal beneficiation to produce HPA feed. Impact Minerals has developed a disruptive process using sulfuric acid leaching at low temperature to efficiently produce 99.99% HPA.
Next steps are confirming and expanding the exploration target, environmental studies, process optimization, marketing samples production, and progressing pre-feasibility and feasibility studies over the next 3 years. The goal is to establish Lake Hope as one of the world's lowest-cost HPA producers.
With Lake Hope, Impact Minerals appears to have secured a potential Tier 1 scale project leveraging an exceptional natural deposit and proprietary process advantages. HPA demand is growing significantly for high-tech applications, promising strong long-term market prospects.
